The Legend lives on

This past week a Canadian legend died, Gordon Lightfoot. There is no doubt that his songs, music and the stories he told through them were and are legendary. The Edmond Fitzgerald and The Canadian Railroad Trilogy come to mind. I remember our high school choir performing the Canadian Railroad Trilogy and I was delighted when he closed the concert we were attending by singing it. Another fun fact for me about Gordon Lightfoot was that before he came to fame he sang at the Crypt which was under the original St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Richmond Hill where I would eventually become the incumbent. This week Canada definitely lost a legend who will always be legendary.

We have a significant legendary figure when it comes to our faith and our call to faithfulness, Jesus Christ our risen Lord. In and of himself, he is a legend who has impacted well over 2000 years of history and the message of his teachings and the way he lived his life and his call to discipleship are equally legendary to the point that we are here today as his followers and disciples.
