Sorrow, Forgiveness, Healing & Reconciliation
Yesterday, Pope Frances delivered an apology to Indigenous people in Canada for all that was experienced in the residential school system. He expressed heartfelt sorrow that such an atrocity happened and that followers of Jesus Christ were instrumental in what has resulted in generational trauma. He made a commitment to healing and seeking reconciliation. He appropriately referred to this as a pilgrimage of repentance. This, I believe, was a significant moment, a holy moment as together he stood with Indigenous people and leaders and apologized.
Jesus calls us as individuals and collectively as the church to acknowledge our sin, to confess our sin and to ask for forgiveness. These are all important and significant in any journey where the hope is for healing of broken relationships and reconciliation for wrongs done and hurt that has been caused. Read More.
