“… And it was good”

This week is earth week which is an intentional time for us to focus on God’s gift of creation and God’s call to us to be stewards of all we have been blessed with. As I look around us and take in the beauty and splendor of creation, I am in awe and how magnificent this gift is that we have received. And I’m especially attentive during this change of season as we welcome spring. The grass is green; the buds are opening up on the trees; the flowers are showing early signs of coming up in the garden; the birds are singing. There is no doubt that we are truly blessed.

As recorded in Genesis, God looked around at all that He created and thought … “it is good”. And it truly was good; in fact it was perfect. Sadly, though, human nature being what it is, we have abused this good and perfect gift to the point that we now live with the reality of an environmental crisis that will have a far reaching impact into the future. I can’t help be think about how sad that must make God feel. And especially when all God asked when He gave human beings that gift was that we look after it and care for it.
