“A Time To Speak”

In Ecclesiastes we read, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven… a time to keep silence and a time to speak.” (Ecc 3:7). Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ …” (Eph 3: 15). In John’s gospel, Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8: 31-32)

We are set free as children of God and disciples of Jesus by the truth God has made known to us as good news full of hope. That truth is centered on the promise of God’s kingdom which is integrated into the whole story of our faith from the beginning of creation through the prophets, in the coming of Jesus, the setting up of the early church down to you and I today. Knowing and believing in that truth brings with it a calling on us from God to speak of what we believe so that others too may come to know and trust and believe.
