“Community Supper, the joy of serving”
A few weeks ago in a sermon I planted the seed of a ministry idea … a twice a month community supper at St. Paul’s. This past Monday, a steering committee met with me using zoom to discuss and reflect further on the potential of our embracing this opportunity. Jesus is pretty clear that serving the most vulnerable and often marginalized of our community is a non negotiable part of our discipleship. He was blunt in his teaching that as we served them we were serving him. That message of serving those in need is all through scripture, in both the old and new testaments. Whether we are talking about the times before the incarnation or post Jesus’ earthly life and ministry, it has been clear that faithfulness to God includes being faithful and responding to the needs around us as we serve God and contribute to the building of God’s kingdom.
